God is my Rock: I Should use His Word as my foundation.
Bible Story:
As a family read the story Jesus told in Matthew 7:24-29 and talk about the two different types of foundations. How can we build our lives on a strong foundation and not on sand?
Foundation Game:
Send your children through your house to find four things they could use as a foundation for a house they make out of building blocks (pillow, book, paper cups, chair). Let them build their house on the different foundation they chose. Talk about which foundation worked best and why. Discuss how our lives are built on foundations. We can have a strong, sturdy foundation if we base our decisions on Gods Word, or we have a soft or weak foundation if we base our decisions on something other than God's Word.
Find a Foundation:
One day this week, take a drive through the neighbourhood that is being built. Find a house where the foundation is still visible so the children can get a picture of what a solid foundation looks like. What if the builder built the house out of sand or dirt? Help them make a connection that, when we do what God's word says, we are building our life on a strong foundation, just like this house is built on a strong foundation.
