Week 5 Family Devotional

Week 5- Read Joshua 3-4
God told Joshua to do something that was very difficult, but He was with Joshua and helped him accomplish it. What is something that God has asked you to do that is not easy?

It is hard to part water!
One evening this week have the whole family come to the kitchen table. Fill a clear plastic tub, larger than a shoe box size, with water and put it on the table. Let each family member take turns trying to part the water. You can use your hands, arms, blow on it, etc. You will see just have difficult is is to part water. However, as we see in our Bible story (Joshua 3-4), God told Joshua to cross the Jordan river, Joshua trusted God, and God parted the water. The story shows us that when God asks us to do something that seems very difficult, we need to be obedient and trust that he will help us accomplish it.

Cookie Hunt
Without your children knowing it hide a plate of cookies somewhere in your house. Tell the children that there is a surprise hidden in the house and let them try to look for a minute on their own. Have the cookies where the children can't find them without help. Then give them step by step instructions on how to find the cookies. While you enjoy the cookies, discuss how it was possible to find the cookies because you helped them. God does the exact same thing, and we need to trust that God will help us accomplish the task He has given us.

This devotion compliments the Sunday morning Journey Below the Earth theme.
